Did you know...
In many tropical countries, the majority of deforestation results from the actions of poor subsistence cultivators. The burning of rainforests are second only to electrical generation as a worldwide carbon production engine and even surpasses the carbon production of our global transportation systems
That tropical rainforests continuously recycle carbon dioxide into oxygen, these forests have been dubbed the "lungs" of the Earth.
Tropical rainforests may be home to up to half of the world’s known species of plants and animals.
So far we use 1% of tropical forest plants, but 25% of medicines originate from them, The rain forests jungle doctors have long been long aware of diverse plants to treat a range of health problems. Modern laboratories have struggled to compete and now deforestation, lack of economic support, and the deterioration of local knowledge will contribute to the loss of this resource for generations, if not forever.
Rainforests provide invaluable ecosystem services including sequestering and storing huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere and providing fresh water to maintain life itself.
Catastrophic climate change resulting from anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions is no longer in doubt at either a scientific or a political level. Against pre-industrial CO2 levels of 290ppm, current levels are at over 385ppm and rising faster than ever, with tipping point expected at 450ppm, after which the climate will not be able to recover.
We urgently need to reduce emissions, which will take time. However, we also need to capture, stabilise and sequester CO2 to reduce levels of atmospheric CO2. We intend to do this by creative and sustainable business models that will regenerate the local economies creating new paradigms of wealth by:
Creating carbon neutral housing units for the people of Belize. Presently villagers live in environmentally unfriendly housing which utilize poor waste management and energy production methods.
Create off-grid sustainable technology platforms to power personal and business activities and where economically and ecologically feasible be a power provider to the BEL electrical grid (Eg: Solar Power)
Create a model of agronomics which develops various plant species to sustain the rain orest and improve farm economics.
Explore Biochar and other new innovative carbon reduction and sequestration technologies with the intent to implement them in the local economies.
Introduce new farming equipment and technology to improve farm operational functionality and land management with the local farmers.
Help develop agro-tourism and eco-tourism business models that centers on knowledge and firsthand experience of the rainforest for health, healing, adventure and well being.
Create a Permaculture Training School at Utz Kab Farm to spread knowledge internationally and locally
Create seed programs and plant grafting programs to preserve and improve genetics.
That our failure as a race to stop this, will mean unthinkable consequences for our children and grandchildren
